1. Is there an airport shuttle service?

Ans: The MaxiCab airport shuttle offers a sheduled service with flexible routing to almost all hotels within the city (excluding hotels on Sentosa and Le Meridien Changi). Alighting points are flexible and any destination within the Central Business District is catered to including MRT stations. The 6-seater MaxiCab has wheel-chair accessible features and luggage room. The shuttle operates from 6am to 2am at frequencies of 30 minutes during off peak hours (6am to 6pm) and 15 minutes during peak hours (6pm to midnight). Tickets cost SGD 7 for adults and SGD 5 for children. Bookings are made at the airport shuttle counters and payment made to the MaxiCab driver. From the city centre, the MRT ride to the Changi Airport station is only 27 minutes. The train service from the Changi Airport station operates at an average frequency of 12 minutes and its service hours can be found here.

Another option is SBS bus 36 from Orchard Road. The fares range from SGD 0.8 to SGD 1.70, depending on where you are. However, this bus has no specialised facility or space for luggage.

Taxis are plentiful in Singapore and you can easily catch a taxi to your hotel or the airport. However, there is a surcharge for taxis hired from the airport.

Lastly, there are limousine services at the airport. Look out for the counters in the arrival hall.

4.Where can I find authentic Singaporean local food?

Ans: There are over 120 food centres (also known as hawker centres) and countless food courts* and kopitiams** dotted all over the island, housing over 17,000 food stalls in total. Thus, it's not difficult to imagine how accessible local food is in Singapore.

Some popular food centres easily accessible to tourists include: Newton Circus Food Centre, Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown Food Street, Lau Pat Sat Festival Market and the East Coast Lagoon Food Village. There is also a food court - or two - in almost every shopping mall, so you can be assured there's always food a stone's throw away.

5.I am a Muslim. Where in Singapore can I find halal restaurants? What about fast food outlets, do you have halal ones in Singapore?

Ans: Fast food joints such as McDonald's Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Delifrance all offer halal food.
Halal food is also sold by Muslim stalls found all food centres and food courts in Singapore. In particular, Banquet owns the first chain of halal food courts. They are located at China Square Central, Raffles Hospital and Pakway Parade, and offer a full halal menu.

In total, there are over 400 halal food outlets in Singapore certified by the MUIS (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore), excluding some of the Muslim-owned outlets as it is not compulsory for outlets to apply for the halal certificate. For a listing, pls visit the MUIS website.

6.How can I find out more about tour packages to Singapore?

Ans: You may also wish to contact the Singapore Tourism Board office nearest to you, so that they would be able to recommend some tour operators for you to get in touch with.

8.Whats the weather like?

Ans: Singapore has a pleasant, tropical climate year round, varying from an average of 28 - 32 degrees Celsius during the day to 23 - 27 degrees Celsius in the evenings. It is not unusual to have intermittent showers on a sunny day but the showers rarely last long and they provide a cool respite. The rainy season in Singapore is from November till February.

9.What souvenirs should I bring home for friends and relatives?

Ans: The variety of souvenirs on sale is plentiful and range from pretty decorative magnets to beautiful orchids dipped in gold. Other items that make for unique souvenirs are batiks, instant mixes of local dishes, local tea and coffee and nonya confections such as 'kueh bangket' and pineapple tarts.
